When Mum died, I promised myself that I would do something to raise money for Cancer Research and/or Princess Alice Hospice. After all, CRUK are at the forefront of prevention, awareness and hopefully finding a cure for this hideous disease, and PAH were there to help us in a very practical way when we needed it most. A friend of mine mentioned the Shine night walk, and it really appealed to me. I approached a group of friends and we decided we'd do the half marathon. All of us have lost a parent to cancer (and one grandparent), so it's personal to us. You can allocate the area of research that you want your funds to go to, so mine will be applied to research into bowel cancer. I registered yesterday, and even bought some new walking shoes, so I'm all set! Just need to turn my attention now to organising our first training walk. It feels good to be doing something positive.
